The Science Coalition Calls for Bipartisan Action on Long-Term Research Funding Post Biden’s SOTU
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to President Biden’s 2024 State of the Union Address, The Science Coalition (TSC) underscores the critical importance of consistent funding for research and innovation in driving economic growth, bolstering national defense, and fostering a skilled STEM workforce.
“A strong research enterprise built on consistent, predictable funding is integral to future economic growth, national defense, and a STEM workforce ready and able to tackle tomorrow’s challenges,” Dr. Pentimonti stated. “It was encouraging to hear President Biden commit to work across the aisle to prioritize the long-term funding federal research agencies need to fulfill their important work. We urge Congress to build on this momentum for a bipartisan agreement on long-term spending that prioritizes American research to bolster our competitive edge.”
While initiatives like the CHIPS and Science Act have sparked investments in pivotal industries such as artificial intelligence and biotechnology, TSC emphasizes the need for sustained bipartisan efforts to fortify the nation’s research enterprise and ensure we remain globally competitive.
TSC calls on Congress and the administration to build on the progress made through initiatives like CHIPS and collaborate on appropriations measures that sustain America’s leadership in research and innovation. As the nation faces evolving challenges and opportunities, a steadfast commitment to robust research funding remains essential to driving progress and prosperity.
