The Science Coalition Applauds Virginia Commonwealth University for NIH Award
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Science Coalition (TSC) congratulates Virginia Commonwealth University’s (VCU) Data Science Lab on receiving the inaugural Rigor Champions Prize from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for its groundbreaking neuroscience research.
“TSC is proud to congratulate Virginia Commonwealth University on this well-deserved recognition from NIH,” said Jill Pentimonti, president of The Science Coalition. “The success and impact of VCU’s Data Science Lab exemplifies the crucial role that federal funding plays in supporting transformational scientific research.”
Led by Dr. Timothy York, the Data Science Lab offers university wide resources, courses, consultations, and workshops that promote rigorous research efforts. Since its founding in 2016, the lab’s dedication to robust and high-quality research has aligned closely with TSC’s efforts advocating for federal scientific research funding at American colleges and universities.
In its award notification, NIH praised the Data Science Lab for its accessible educational programming and its unique ReproducibiliTea journal club, which helps young researchers build local communities of peers who are interested in open and reproducible research.
“Federal grants are the lifeblood of scientific discovery at American higher education research institutions,” added Pentimonti. “The Science Coalition remains committed to securing strong federal investments in scientific research so that institutions like VCU can continue to make significant technical advancements and scientific breakthroughs.”
