The Science Coalition Statement on Proposal to End American Semiconductor Investments
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Science Coalition’s Communications Director, Daniel Jacobs, issued the following statement after the president called for repealing the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 during last night’s joint address to Congress.
“Upending America’s strong bipartisan investments in semiconductor manufacturing, workforce training, infrastructure development, and scientific research would set our economy back and put our nation at a strategic disadvantage.”
“Countries like China are pouring resources into semiconductor labs, fabs, and workforces. America must keep pace and continue leveraging our nation’s colleges and universities to support critical semiconductor scientific research and development efforts.”
“The administration and its allies in Congress should carefully consider the detrimental impacts of repealing the CHIPS and Science Act. This proposed move would reduce America’s advanced manufacturing capacity, undermine our technological edge, and hamper our ability to contend with peer and near-peer competitors.”
